The Grocery List

People have been asking me what foods to buy.  So this will be short and sweet. Obviously I buy herbs and other things as needed for specific recipes, but  the following are my home’s essentials:

  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Pineapple
  • Apples-usually gala or fuji, but that’s just our preference
  • Bananas
  • Red Grapes
  • Tomatoes
  • Asparagus
  • Green Beans
  • Onions and garlic
  • Avocado
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Mushrooms
  • Red and Green Pepper
  • Low fat cottage cheese-I like Breakstone the most
  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Organic 2% milk
  • Poly-O string cheese 2%
  • Reduced fat cream cheese
  • Chobani Champions (for the kids.  It is a greek yogurt with no artificial dyes or added sugars)
  • Organic brown eggs
  • Non gmo whole wheat pasta
  • Brown rice
  • Organic, whole wheat, non gmo bread
  • Dry roasted flax seeds
  • Raw, unsalted almonds
  • Organic applesauce-there’s literally 3 ingredients.  compare it to regular applesauce that is FULL of sugar and a ton of ingredients
  • Raw, organic honey
  • Coffee
  • Chinese Oolong and Green tea
  • Frozen veggies
  • Ground Turkey
  • Chicken Breasts
  • Poultry Sausage

So those are my home’s essentials.  Yes, I spend a fortune on produce, but there are countless dishes I can prepare with them.  Frozen veggies are just as great, but more so for quick cooking or adding to things like soups or casseroles.  Fruits are a must and check out my post tomorrow to learn more.  I am trying to buy as much organic and non gmo products I can find, which is hard due to the lack of labeling.  For more info on GMO’s, read here.  For other meal ideas read here.  If you aren’t aware of the tremendous benefits of honey, check it out!  And lastly, if you don’t drink tea, consider adding it to your list.  Read more about its benefits here.
