The Kitchen Sink

This is delicious and full of so many various foods, which is why I titled it “the kitchen sink.”  It’s slightly higher in calories, due to the avocado, but is packed with omega 3’s, magnesium, potassium, vitamins A, K, C, B2, B3, B6, antioxidants, and even folate, for all of you expecting moms out there!  If you are pregnant or nursing, don’t forget about pears.  They’re sweet and delicious and are packed with folate, high in fiber, and rich in vitamins and minerals.  They’re perfect to add to any smoothie, as their taste is not too citrusy.

  • 1 TBS honey
  • 1/2 c. water
  • handful of red grapes
  • 1/2 avocado peeled, and pitted
  • 1/2 banana
  • slice of lemon with rind
  • 1 pear, cored
  • 1 c. spinach
  • 4 strawberries, including stems
  • 1/2 orange, peeled
  • 1/2 c. ice

Begin with Vitamix on variable, speed 1 and quickly increase to 10, then to high.  Blend about 30 seconds or until your desired consistency.  This recipe makes about 4 cups, so it’s great to share with the kids or refrigerate for later.
